The season of walking the fairgrounds, soaking in the summer sun, and watching youth exhibitors exhibit livestock is nearly sneaking up on us. For some students, the season of preparing livestock for the summer show season has already begun.
On Saturday, March 26th through the 27th, members of the Missouri State University campus club, Block and Bridle, hosted exhibitors to compete in the Bear Round Up event. Exhibitors traveled from across Missouri with a few traveling from states such as Arkansas, Iowa, and Kansas to gather at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds.
When asking Associate Professor in Animal Sciences, Dr. Adam McGee, about the event he stated, “We brought these students in to compete during the two-day show at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds to show off their heifers and market animals they have been showing all spring and are going to continue showing this summer.”
Exhibitors brought their heifers and market animals to Bear Round Up to compete upon their cattle’s appearance and marketability to the judges. The judges select the highest quality set of cattle within each individual class to advance on to the final round. Exhibitors received awards and plaques to congratulate their winnings.
When asking Dr. Adam McGee about the Block and Bridle club, he shared “The Missouri State Block and Bridle group is a group of students who have an interest in production livestock and showing livestock. We gear our club to the side of showing livestock and are more focused on the cattle side with hopes in the future to start expanding more into market hogs, market lambs, and the breeding side of those animals as well.”
